Biology

This course is designed to provide an overview of the elements of microbiology. Topics include a brief history of microbiology, cell structure and function, microscopy and staining procedures, microbial metabolism, microbial nutrition and growth, controlling microbial growth, and epidemiology. The student will also be introduced to viruses and virus-like pathogens. This course includes a lab component.

This course is designed to provide an overview of the elements of microbiology that apply to the oral cavity. Students will study the characterization and classification of selected Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria. The student will also be introduced to hypersensitivities and pathogenic Chlamydia, spirochetes, and vibrios. This course includes a lab component.
